Week 1 internship

Hello, welcome to my blog about my 3rd / 4rd year of Trade Management aimed at Asia aka TMA. It's about my study and internship in Japan however because of certain circumstances I'll do my internship in The Netherlands.

That being said, as I'm not yet in Japan I'll mainly write about my internship here for now.

The internship I'm doing is called OYC europe (Oriental Yeast Company).
website: www.oyceu.com
Short description: OYC Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oriental Yeast CO,. Ltd. (OYC Japan), who is one of the world's largest manufacturers of biochemical products.

The first week was mostly an introduction week. I met most employees and was being told what OYC is for kind of company. Ali, the marketing and sales manager, who is also my supervisor, wanted me to get the feeling of OYC Europe so I deepened myself in the background of OYC Europe but also what they are doing right now.

After learning more of the company we talked about my tasks I could do here.
The focus would be on marketing and a bit logistics.
First assignment I got was that I was responsible for the company's housestyle.
Since OYC Eu hasn't got a housestyle yet, they wanted me to create one.
Ali told me it needs to fit in the company's image and easy recognizable for their customers.

The first thing that had to be done was the brochure, we discussed in a meeting with everyone some ideas for the brochure and what the content should be. They also showed me their new website which is still in the making to get a better look at the new style.

After that I started working on the brochure. As for the brochures, there will be 4 different ones. Namely: the Raw Material Pack, OEM Reagents, Singular products and as last but not least, Services.

The range of products is rather wide and complicated, so it will take some time before I'm aware of all the ins and outs.

Furthermore, I discussed with the supervisor (Ali) about the evaluation and the internship assignments. From time to time I'll have a talk with him about how I do and how I can improve.
My personal development points I want to realize are my communication skills and marketing skills. I feel that these two points are the most important right now.

Making contact with the other employees is fairly easy as we all work in 1 room. There are three table islands and I'm sitting in the middle one so communicating with everyone is really easy. In the beginning Ali already let me talk with everyone separately to get to know them better and so they get to know me better as well.
I can already get along well together with my colleagues.

Concerning working here, I have done already quite some research about the company itself and have been told by Ali about it as well. I have showed him some of my work already and he and the others seem satisfied with it so far. I think it will go well.
